Panel explores pros, cons of publicly-owned utilities at City Club Missoula discussion
There is a potential for ratepayer-friendly outcomes if Montana’s power distribution companies become publicly-owned entities, said a University of Montana professor in a panel discussion at the monthly gathering of the City Club of Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org on Friday afternoon in the Governor’s Room of the historic Florence Hotel.
However, if the public takeover is not thoroughly investigated, the potential pitfalls could prove disastrous for customers, said Thomas Power, chair of UM’s economics department.
“Before we endorse this,” he said, “we should keep in mind the series of missteps that brought us to where we are now.”
