Lively wireless: New Montana cell company, Chinook Wireless in midst of $40 million expansion

You may have seen the new television ads: A kite takes off on a green swath of grass. A voice says, “Change is in the air.”

It’s part of a brand-building campaign by Chinook Wireless http://www.chinookwireless.com/ , a new company based in Great Falls and backed by Boston venture capital firm Alta Partners, said Jonathan Foxman, president and CEO of Chinook. Foxman spoke recently at the Missoula Area Economic Development Corp. annual meeting.

A veteran of the from-scratch wireless world, Foxman built Chinook from components of rural telephone cooperatives such as 3 Rivers Communications and Blackfoot Communications and others. The sales went through in August 2005.
