Fledgling businesses rely on SCORE

Lorena Waters never imagined that the owner of her favorite Boise coffeehouse would accept when she approached him last year with an unsolicited offer to buy the business.

"But he said yes. Then, of course, I didn’t know what to do next," said Waters, who last January joined the growing ranks of small business owners in the Treasure Valley by opening the new Cinnabar Caffé in the Northgate Shopping Center.

Waters got the help she needed at the Boise chapter of SCORE, a network of 40 retired area business executives that last year spent 885 hours guiding 791 new entrepreneurs through the ins and outs of getting a small business off the ground.
