Montana high school biz students learn, compete in the DECA state conference

If you were wondering who that well-dressed, well-spoken teenager was that you ran into Sunday or Monday, it was probably one of more than 1,300 students who were in town for the 2006 Montana Business Professionals of America and Montana DECA (Distributive Educational Clubs of America) state conference.

"A lot of them qualify to get here," said Diana Fiedler, the Montana BPA/DECA state adviser. "If the students qualify at a regional level, they can compete in the same event at state. If they’re in the top five at state, they can go to nationals. It’s like steppingstones."
