Powell, Wyoming fiber optic network moves forward. System would offer 30 to 100 times faster Internet connections

Members of the Powell City Council have approved a memorandum of understanding with two companies looking to help build and operate a state-of-the-art citywide fiber optic network.

The network would offer communication speeds 30 to 100 times as fast as current high-speed Internet connections and would bring telephone, digital television and Internet service to homes on a single cable.

Powell would be among the first cities in the country to have access to such high-speed services and among only a handful of communities to maintain municipal control and eventual ownership of the network.
