One year after Qwest deregulation, rural Idaho phone companies ask for similar treatment

A year after Qwest Communications International Corp. persuaded Idaho lawmakers to eventually allow it to set its own prices, the state’s small, rural phone companies are in front of the 2006 Legislature asking for similar treatment.

"Last year, I said ‘Remember when you are done with Qwest, there’s more to be done?’ " said Ken McClure, a lobbyist for the Idaho Telephone Association, which represents 19 communication-related companies. "This is the ‘More to be done.’ "
