Venture capital blockbusters at Colorado VC Conference

Several dozen companies make a pitch for fresh funding; at least 3 made a big impression

What does it take for a nascent company to land investment backing from a picky venture capitalist?

"It’s all about the viability of the business model," said Chris Onan of Denver’s Appian Ventures. "It’s also about the credibility of (the management team) to generate revenue and profits."

Those qualities are a good start, but there’s no substitute for delivering a blockbuster product in a hot industry, said Steve Hubbard of Denver’s Daniels & Associates, an investment consulting firm.

More than half of the two dozen companies that presented at last week’s Venture Capital in the Rockies conference in Beaver Creek could land financing over the next year, based on the type of excitement seen in previous years.
