Montana University-system fails to defend its professors who question Montana’s business climate.

I am both amused and amazed at the reactions to the University of Montana’s “Economic Outlook” seminars, which examined Montana’s business climate.

I am particularly surprised at the criticism of faculty members Jack Morton and Mike Harrington for presenting a list of issues which some business leaders believed to be impediments to a healthy business climate in Montana.

Even more disappointing is the collective (and shameful) silence of the administration of the Montana University System at all levels and all campuses with respect to this criticism.

In part, the “benefit of the bargain” of any university system is for faculty to stimulate discussion of ideas in the community — whether popular or not.
