10 Towns vie for Montana Main Street program

Two Montana communities will be selected this spring to participate in the new Main Street program, a national effort approved by the 2005 Legislature that helps revitalize aging downtowns.

The Department of Commerce expects 10 communities to apply for the program, with a six-person committee recommending two finalists by late March, said Ann Desch, chief of the agency’s Small Business Development Center Bureau, which helps administer the program.

Department Director Anthony Preite is expected to make the final selections in early April, Desch told a subcommittee of the Education and Local Government Interim Committee on Thursday.
