Economic development no easy task for any state. Money talks

It’s disconcerting to see that Great Falls lost a potential major employer, because it appears the state was not clear on its commitment.

Yet, it’s also disconcerting to see states cover the cost of training private enterprise employees.

Unfortunately that is the cost of luring businesses to Montana.

The battle to bring new businesses to Montana is so competitive that tax breaks, infrastructure upgrades, fee waivers and even employee training, are all on the table.

“There’s a lot of ways to help a company locate here,” said Evan Barrett, the chief economic development officer for the state.
