Web boost for Bay State firms unveiled. Romney sets link to create new jobs

Governor Mitt Romney, criticized for the lack of job growth during his tenure, launched an initiative yesterday to sell Massachusetts businesses and research institutions to the world, saying the state’s best resources are going untapped as the economy limps forward.

The effort, called Massachusetts Business Connect http://www.mass.gov/bizconnect , is designed to link leading companies around the globe with Massachusetts technology firms, colleges and universities, and other institutions willing and able to carry out lucrative and sophisticated research and development contracts. Many companies and industries either don’t fully understand what Massachusetts has to offer, or don’t know how to take advantage of it, Romney said.

”I think it’s fair to say that today we stop playing just defense on job creation," said Ranch C. Kimball, state economic development secretary, who detailed the plan yesterday with Romney to about 130 business leaders at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. ”Today we go on offense."
