Grooming millionaires. Finding new business ideas involves a team of problem hunters that interviews industry leaders to discover what they need.

A new business development team culls ideas from Rio Rancho’s Intel in an effort to bring high-tech business – and bucks – to New Mexico

Like hitting a bull’s-eye, successfully developing a high-tech business is best done with a target clearly in sight.

That’s the idea behind a new high-tech business development group being formed by Next Generation Economy Inc., an Albuquerque economic development group focusing on innovation-based businesses.

"The old way of doing it . . . you have a great gizmo and you try to figure out who will buy it," said Mike Skaggs, president and CEO of Next Generation Economy. "You’re wasting time. How do you know there’s ever going to be anybody who wants it?

"But if you ask what the problem is and then you come up with a solution reacting to that problem, you have a customer automatically."

The idea came from a meeting with Intel, Skaggs said.
