Tech crazy kids learn new skills

Andrea Bender, a second-grade student from Bryant Elementary, heads to the Helena Housing Authority office’s computer lab nearly every day of the week after school.

Bender is one of the students in the Helena area who participates in Tech Kids, a free program to help teach computer skills to youngsters while having fun.

Tech Kids coordinator and AmeriCorp Service Member Mara Baldwin said it “bridges the digital divide.”

The eight computer stations are generally full, but there is a nice lounge area for children to sit and do their homework too.

“We want them to feel welcome whether they come in once a week or every single day,” Colleen McCarthy, HHA executive director said.
