Montana State Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch pledges to continue kindergarten funding campaign

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch said Wednesday that she’ll continue to campaign for state funding to pay for full-time kindergarten.

Addressing about 400 educators at the Montana Title I Education Conference in Billings, McCulloch said she’s pleased with how public education fared during the special legislative session last December, when lawmakers appropriated $71 million for public schools.

The new money will provide more resources for special education, provide relief for high energy costs, and help close the achievement gap between American Indian students and white students, McCulloch said.

"We made a huge step forward, but there’s still more to be done," she said.
