MSU offers new scholarships for Montana freshmen

Montana State University is offering new scholarships for incoming freshmen from Montana and has extended the deadline for 2006 MSU Freshman Departmental Scholarships past Feb. 1.

Ronda Russell, director of MSU’s Office of Admissions, said the new scholarships are a direct result of MSU’s "Putting Students First" campaign that raised more than $22 million in scholarship funds.

"MSU is dedicated to enable Montana students to pursue their dreams," Russell said. "We know that affordability can be a roadblock to higher education for many Montana families."

The new scholarships, which will be worth $500 and up, are earmarked for select Montana incoming freshmen with excellent grade-point averages and good standardized test scores.

Students can be considered for the new scholarship by submitting an application to MSU (found at https://apply.embark.com/ugrad/montanastate/) and completing a Freshman Departmental Scholarship application found at: http://www.montana.edu/admissions/scholarships.shtml (scroll down to Freshmen Departmental Scholarships). Applicants must also request that ACT and/or SAT scores be sent to Montana State University. Students selected to receive the scholarships will be notified by mail by May 1.

"We are excited about what this will enable us to do in terms of tuition assistance," Russell said.

The new scholarships are limited in number and will be awarded as long as the funding pool for the new scholarships lasts, Russell added.
.
"We encourage students who have not already applied for admissions and scholarships to do so as soon as possible," she said.
