Evan Barrett knows what it's like to have an idea that others describe as a cockamamie scheme.

As the former head of Butte's economic development office, Barrett championed Destination: Montana, an aborted plan to transform the downtrodden city into a no-holds-barred national gambling attraction. * “I learned a long time ago not to close one's eyes to an idea because it's a little more visionary,” said Barrett, who is now Gov. Brian Schweitzer's economic development director.

A new vision, dreamed up by University of Montana vice president Jon A. Rudbach, is to develop Glendive into an economic hub for eastern Montana.

Evan once said in a speech, "I don't know what can't be done." Montana is blessed to have people of vision like Evan and Tony Rudbach.

Tony should spend a little more of his time on issues related to commercializing the IP being developed by UM researchers and a little less time on plans that involve massive and perpetual federal subsidies.
