Recruiting rural teachers. Districts innovating incentives to lure educators

School districts on the Valley’s fringes are upping the ante in a competitive job market for new teachers.

Faced with competing against large districts with many more resources, those in the rural and high-growth areas are trying or considering everything from finder’s fees to four-day school weeks to help level the playing field.

The Coolidge Unified School District is developing an incentive package that it hopes will include business partnerships and housing deals for new teachers. The Florence Unified School District is considering a move to a four-day school week.
