Paddling before patience: Whitewater enthusiasts in downtown Missoula don’t wait long to hit first completed rapid at Brennan’s Wave

Missoula kayaker Corey Ryan rides the first rapid completed in the Brennan’s Wave whitewater park on the Clark Fork River on Monday afternoon. Ryan said he dreamed about the wave all weekend, anxious to give it a try.

Teachers and professors: Be on the alert for soggy students. There’s a whole new temptation to cut class running through town.

The first rapid of the future Brennan’s Wave whitewater park is open for surfing, and had collected a half-dozen boaters by noon Monday.

Located just below the viewing deck at Caras Park, the man-made rapid got top grades from several University of Montana students who couldn’t wait for summer to get their boats wet.
