To help recruit 32,000 new teachers – Give all of them laptops says Florida Governor

With Florida needing nearly 32,000 new teachers, Gov. Jeb Bush proposed buying laptops for all teachers and spending nearly $50 million to boost recruitment.

All of Florida’s nearly 164,000 public school teachers would receive laptop computers under a $237 million plan to recruit and retain educators, which Gov. Jeb Bush unveiled Monday at North Miami Middle School.

The proposal also includes the creation of an education minor at the state’s public universities and nearly $48 million for signing bonuses, student loan repayments and housing assistance programs used by some local school districts to attract teachers.
