Tax-increment financing law helps Missoula development park attract businesses

In the last week of 2005, construction workers broke ground at the Missoula County Development Park on a call center for DirecTV.

The technical needs of the 800-employee plant, slated to begin taking calls next August, will be met with duplicate broadband Internet lines, phone service and power, said Dick King, head of the nonprofit Missoula Area Economic Development Corp. and one of the architects of the DirecTV deal.

For instance, if NorthWestern Energy has a power outage, Missoula Electric Cooperative service will carry the load. The same redundancy will exist at the park for Internet and other services, King said.
