A history of Seattle venture capital

Woody Howse — the grandfather of Seattle’s venture capital community — remembers to the day starting the region’s first institutional venture capital fund. It was October 25, 1977 and Howse — along with partner Tom Cable — sat down at a breakfast and worked out the details of what was then called Kalaloch Partners.

Seattle’s venture capital community was born. The name of the firm quickly changed to Cable & Howse Ventures after Charles Waite — the founder of Boston-based Greylock and father of OVP Venture Partners’ Chad Waite — said Kalaloch sounded like the Greylock of Seattle.
