Some Boomer Owners May Look to Sell Their Businesses in 2006

The first members of the baby-boomer generation will turn 60 this month — and many are beginning to think about what they want to do next.

Connecticut heating-oil business owner John Santa is selling his company to younger family members. He plans to consult for other businesses and do volunteer work.

Mr. Santa says the transition is tough for a lot of business owners he knows. "They’re bored now," he says. "They miss their customers." He forces himself to stay busy so he won’t feel the urge to interfere with or look over the shoulders of the new owners.
