MSU-Billings student, Troy Fix wins International Business Simulation Contest

Troy Fix, a 22-year-old business student in his junior year at Montana State University-Billings, earned almost $90 million one Sunday in November.

Fix, an Ekalaka native, competed against 333 international teams in an online business simulation competition, the Capstone and Foundation Challenge. Fix’s cash flow shot up and down throughout the weekend game. After a stint at the bottom of the six-finalist barrel, Fix was able to redeem himself and his company and win the contest.

"I didn’t think I had a chance," Fix said, "When I told my parents, they didn’t believe it."

The challenge gives students a virtual business to manage, and they must use marketing, research, production and finance skills to succeed. The team whose company earns the most cumulative profit is the winner. The contest is an accessory to a classroom simulation curriculum presented by Management Simulations Inc. More than 500 schools worldwide utilize the program.
