Businesses must engage workers to meet goals

Are you willing to go the extra mile for your employer? Are you so highly committed to seeing that your company does well that you’ll put in whatever extra effort is required?

If you are, then you’re in the minority.

According to a new global study, only 14 percent of employees are ”fully engaged” in their work.

”Fully engaged employees have the desire and the capability and are willing to put in discretionary effort for their employer,” says Julie Gebauer with Towers Perrin, a human resources company that conducted the study. ”In other words, they’re willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.”

The study of more than 85,000 people working for midsize and large companies in 16 countries on four continents found that a great majority of employees are ”moderately engaged” or ”actively disengaged ” – including workers in the U.S.
