IBM discovers carbon nanotubes 1,000 times brighter than light-emitting diodes

IBM’s research team has di scovered a miniscule light created by carbon nanotubes that is 1,000 times brighter than light-emitting diodes. This light can be used to create a tiny ray of light that will allow optical probing of single molecules.

This discovery is expected to lead to a greater understanding of interactions between the conductor material and electrons and holes, which are positively charged active carriers. Such an understanding could allow for creating efficiencies between electronic and optical currents. Using nanotubes to convert electronic signals to optical photons will use less heat and energy than previous methods.
