The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation has created a Web site for growth-oriented entrepreneurs.

Kauffman eVenturingTM Provides Relevant and Timely Information for Entrepreneurs on the Move

Entrepreneurs now have a new source to tap for timely, practical information on how to start, manage and expand their businesses. Today, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation http://www.emkf.org unveiled Kauffman eVenturingTM (http://www.eVenturing.org), a new Web site dedicated to serving the needs of growth-oriented entrepreneurs, a group whose efforts are critical to the health of the American economy.

Kauffman eVenturing offers a guide to entrepreneurs on the fast-paced journey toward high growth. The site will be filled with rich content, including new articles created by entrepreneurs exclusively for the site, and an in-depth aggregation of existing information on the Web on a wide array of subjects – from accessing capital to implementing successful recruiting strategies and competing in global markets. The site will also feature fresh material every day gathered though a link-blog that Kauffman has established to identify the latest information on different aspects of entrepreneurship from a wide variety of sources.

"Innovative entrepreneurs play a key role in driving our economy forward," said Carl Schramm, president and chief executive officer of the Kauffman Foundation. "Through our new eVenturing site, they now have a single place they can come to for the best current thinking on how to handle practical challenges."

Small companies with fewer than 500 employees account for more than 50 percent of our country’s non-farm private GDP, employ half of all private sector employees and 41 percent of high tech workers, and have generated 60 to 80 percent of net new jobs annually during the past decade, according to data referenced in the 2005 Small Business FAQ released by the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration in October.

The Kauffman eVenturing site is organized around six subject areas – finance, human resources, sales and marketing, products/services, operations, and the entrepreneur (e.g., strategy, culture, leadership). New collections of articles will be featured once a month, rotating among those subjects. The first collection, currently available on eVenturing.org, is on how entrepreneurs can successfully pitch angel investors for funding – with advice on everything from articulating a convincing ‘elevator pitch’ to clearly communicating how their business will generate a return for investors.

"Our goal is to become the ‘first stop’ for entrepreneurs focused on growing their businesses by providing them with ‘the best of the best’ practical information and tools," said Judith Cone, vice president of the Kauffman Foundation’s entrepreneurship initiatives. "Through a link-blog, we’ll be adding new content on a daily basis. We’ll also consult with working entrepreneurs to find out what information they need most."

The site is very easy to search and navigate, so entrepreneurs can find the information they need quickly. Keywords in every article are "tagged" so that available information about a specific query can be assembled immediately.

"Busy entrepreneurs don’t have any time to waste looking for answers to pressing problems that affect their business," observed William H. Payne, an angel investor and a Kauffman entrepreneur-in-residence. "We believe they’ll like the fact that all the information on the site has been vetted by a trusted, unbiased source."
