But CEO and founder of RightNow Technologies http://www.rightnow.com/ Greg Gianforte puts an entrepreneurial spin on it.

"Bootstrapping is really about an entrepreneur thinking outside the box and, in particular, thinking of innovative ways to start and grow a business without a lot of money," he said.

Forgoing outside financing options such as venture capital is the heart of Gianforte's new book, "Bootstrapping Your Business," published in September (Adams Media, $12.95). Gianforte co-wrote the book with Marcus Gibson, a London business journalist who has since created his own start-up company.
