Software helps schools manage sensitive information

IDENTITY management software is one of the faster growing subsets of the flourishing data security industry.

Sun Microsystems Inc. of Santa Clara has a package that it believes is gaining market share among universities and large organizations trying to control logistics over the flow of sensitive information in far-flung campuses.

"In our last fiscal year we had 50 to 75 universities implementing our identity management solutions. It’s a growth business for Sun," said Sarah Gates, vice president of the group.

"The reason is what is happening at universities and companies today with the focus on security and compliance with new laws. It is a huge focus across the board," she said.
