Bozeman, Montana’s Hatch fest gives public inside look at movie biz

For the movie business, the old adage still rings true for would-be movie makers.

"It’s who you know," Hatch president Huntley Ritter said. "And we know a lot of people."

Ritter and others involved with the Oct. 4-9 festival of film and other arts are putting their connections to work for a select few filmmakers looking to break into the movie industry.

Hatch http://www.hatchfest.com , now in its second year, is a nonprofit organization that each year reviews films from hundreds of applicants and chooses the top 10 films. Those filmmakers come to Bozeman to spend six days working closely with movie-industry moguls and attending workshops and discussion panels.

Movie stars Kevin Bacon, Peter Fonda and Liam Neeson will be here to mentor the filmmakers at this year’s festival. Other big-time players include Frank Pierson, past president of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, and Patrick Markey, producer of "A River Runs Through It."
