Institute Plans Conference to Bring Medical Research to Montana

While Montana is not known for medical research and technology, there’s no reason it couldn’t be. Over the past decade or so some very successful research endeavors have emerged in the state, including some profitable business ventures doing medical research. They are indicative of what’s possible.

Much of this effort has occurred in western Montana, but there’s no reason Billings, with a large medical services component as part of its economic base, shouldn’t be equally as qualified to attract and develop medical research as a part of its economic future. The question is "where to begin?"

The relatively new organization, Northwest Research & Education Institute, was formed as a joint venture by the Rocky Mountain Health Network and St. Vincent Healthcare to address exactly that challenge. One of its first steps is to bring together a wide array of people from the community and from within the industry to share knowledge and to network in laying the ground work to expand the bio-medical arena in Montana.

Called "Ideas Montana Medicine" the two day event will bring together those who have already succeeded in launching medical research programs in Montana, professionals who know what it takes to cultivate a conducive environment for more of the same, and others interested in economic development. "Ideas Montana Medicine" will be held on Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30 at the Mansfield Health Education center, 2900 12th Ave. North, in Billings. Registration is limited to the first 200 applicants.
