Digital Frontier – First computer causes 6th grader to say: "This is the best day of my life."

"This is the best day of my life."

Sixth-grader Kevin Faulkner was pretty pumped Monday when he walked into his Frontier Middle School classroom and found a brand new Apple iBook waiting on his desk.

Though students at Frontier have been in school for three weeks, Monday was the first day they’d used their new laptops in class. The mounting excitement has been almost more than students could bear.

"It’s really cool to actually see that it’s here and be able to use it," said Taylor Hope, another sixth-grader.

The computer network at the brand-new school wasn’t ready when school started. But Verba Echols, co-principal at the new middle school, said the plan has always been to roll out the laptops after a few weeks of orientation around the school.

"Even if it had been done in June, I would not have moved any faster," she said.

Students needed to get used to the building and the middle school environment first, she said.

"There’s so much that needs to be done."
