Biz database can open doors – a boon to business owners as well as marketers, researchers and anyone thinking of starting a business

A new database at the Lewis and Clark Library should be a boon to business owners as well as marketers, researchers and anyone thinking of starting a business here or anywhere else, the librarian who decided to subscribe said.

The Reference USA Business database includes information on more than 12 million businesses in the U.S., from Microsoft and IBM to some of the smallest mom-and-pops on the smallest Main Streets in the nation.

"This is one of many databases that we’ve added," said John Heldt, reference and information services librarian. "We thought it would be something that would be useful, particularly to the business community. I think of it as a glorified Yellow Pages, but it’s lots more than that."

An expert from Omaha-based Information USA will be at the library today, teaching a series of classes on how to efficiently use his company’s compilation of business information.
