Advertising blitz to highlight meth’s horrors – Montana has obtained a high-powered ally – Thomas Siebel

Montana has obtained a high-powered ally in its fight against the explosion of methamphetamine use in its communities — software mogul and part-time Montana resident Thomas Siebel.

Siebel was in the capital Tuesday at the Best Western Helena Great Northern Hotel to unveil a hard-hitting, if not downright harsh, advertising campaign geared toward exposing Montana teenagers to the ugly reality of methamphetamine addiction.

Developers of the advertising campaign, which will splash images depicting the devastation caused by meth use onto television screens, billboards and newspapers, hope to reduce the number of youths trying the drug for the first time.

"They’re disturbing. It’s a disturbing subject," Siebel said of the advertisements. He added that he knows some people will be upset by the content, but he believes revealing the toll meth addiction takes is the only way to make a difference.

And Montana communities will be bombarded with the message.

Thomas Siebel may be a part-time Montana resident, but his commitment to the residents of Big Sky Country appears to be worthy of full-time status.

Over the years, the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation has donated millions of dollars to organizations across the nation, not to mention numerous causes in Montana.

Visitors to the Museum of the Rockies will soon be able to visit the Siebel Dinosaur Complex — a 12,000-square-foot facility for the exhibition of dinosaur content and research funded through a $2 million grant from the foundation in 2002.
