TechRanch awards Sen. Conrad Burns Silver Buckle – hailed as hero by MSU

Sen. Conrad Burns Monday received the Silver Buckle Award from TechRanch for his help in making Montana State University a thriving research center.

Burns’ position on the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations has meant years of continued funding for research at MSU, TechRanch Marketing Manager Stephanie Kaleva said.

Research at MSU indirectly benefits TechRanch, the nonprofit resource center for entrepreneurs, because researchers come to TechRanch for help commercializing their discoveries and ideas.

Burns hailed as hero by MSU

Montana State University’s president called Sen. Conrad Burns a "hero" Monday for securing millions of dollars for university research, while Burns defended such pork-barrel spending as benefiting the state and not adding to the nation’s bloated budget deficit.

MSU President Geoff Gamble and a crowd of about 80 scientists and employees stood to applaud Montana’s Republican senator.

"Conrad has done so much for this state and this university," Gamble said, offering his thanks.
