Ecotourism stresses responsible travel and its coming to Montana – Off the Beaten Path and Papoose Creek

Ecotourism is the fastest-growing segment of a major industry.

So what is it?

"I’m not sure either," said Bill Bryan, cofounder and chairman of Off the Beaten Path http://www.offthebeatenpath.com/ , a 20-year-old Bozeman company that is a national leader in the adventure and nature travel business.

Bryan, a committed conservationist, said he isn’t comfortable with the term "ecotourism." He prefers the phrase "responsible travel."

Others are very comfortable with the ecotourism label. It’s a concept that’s been applied increasingly around the world for at least a decade. Now it’s coming to Montana, particularly the upper Madison Valley, where the high-end Papoose Creek Lodge http://www.papoosecreek.com/ is doing everything it can to apply what are admittedly a pretty loose set of concepts.
