Dinosaur Trail attracts visitors to Montana

While planning his family’s summer vacation, Pete Holm was looking for sites along the way that would appeal to his young 9-year-old son Zach’s big interest – dinosaurs.

To Holm’s delight, he found a Web site for the Montana Dinosaur Trail http://www.mtdinotrail.org , listing a network of museums that coincided with the first leg of their journey across Montana’s northern tier.

"It turned out the route we wanted to take across Highway 2 correlated with a lot of the different dinosaur museums," said Holm, who visited three venues in Malta and Fort Peck last week. "I’m very pleased with what we found, (and) Zachary is very happy."

The Montana Dinosaur Trail promotion program is being credited with bringing hundreds more tourists to Montana dinosaur museums and discovery sites.

Also driving the rush is the recent national attention on Montana dinosaur discoveries and more dinosaur-viewing venues in the state.

Travel Montana, the state’s promotional arm, along with a consortium of regional tourism boosters and museums, has been heavily marketing Montana’s dinosaurs. In March, the consortium printed the "Montana Dinosaur Trail" map and created a companion Web site http://www.mtdinotrail.org.
