Yellowstone microbes detailed in new book by MSU researcher

Kathy Sheehan studies pond scum, and with the recent publication of her book the Montana State University researcher hopes others will appreciate the brightly pigmented organisms that thrive in Yellowstone National Park.

"The concept of the book is to help people to think about bacteria not as bad, disease-causing bugs, but to appreciate microbes as part of a healthy ecosystem," Sheehan, a research associate in MSU’s microbiology department, said. "People can find many fascinating microbes by examining pond scum under a microscope."
