So far, they only resemble oversized gopher holes. Soon, the holes will give rise to giant wind turbines scattered across the grasslands south of Judith Gap.

Construction on Montana’s largest wind farm began earlier this spring and is set to wrap up by the end of the year. When complete, the farm’s 90 turbines – considered a power plant – will provide at least a portion of the electricity needs of 300,000 NorthWestern Energy customers.

By all measures, the Judith Gap Wind Farm is grand in scope.
