Missoula’s sister city representative John Wall of Palmerston North, New Zealand extends hand of friendship….and a golf-croquet mallet.

All roads out of Palmerston North, New Zealand, lead through Missoula.

"The easiest way to get to Toronto from New Zealand is to go around the world," said Palmerston North resident and croquet aficionado John Wall. "And if I’m doing that, I just had to come to Missoula."

As secretary of the Palmerston North/Missoula Sister-City Committee, Wall said he has special appreciation for how far out of most people’s way Missoula lies.

While sitting roughly 9,000 miles from home, he also observed that the Missoula Ambassador Choir would be singing its first concert in Palmerston North early Saturday morning (Mountain Daylight Time).

"People are really key to this relationship," the retired secondary school headmaster said Friday. "What has continued it is the visits. The sister-city program is one of those balls being thrown up, ready to be hit for a home run."
