Cities tout tech corridor

East Valley’s 101 swath gets marketing push

Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler and the Arizona State University Research Park are naming an asset they say was born years ago – the 101 Science & Technology Corridor.

The cities are jointly marketing the newly christened tech hub for the first time today at the Biotechnology Industry Organization 2005 convention in Philadelphia. The corridor includes a 30-mile stretch of research, tech and manufacturing businesses along the Loop 101 freeway that shoots through the three communities.

The Valley cities want the corridor to become nationally known, like Research Triangle Park in North Carolina or Route 128 in Massachusetts. They also want to attract biotech businesses to their individual cities, often overlooked at the
world’s largest biotech convention.

"As a group we have this enormous basket of goods," said Katherine Hutton Raby, Scottsdale’s economic-development manager.
