Teach human values to university students

Call to create a knowledge-driven society upholding justice

Stressing the need for teaching human values to university students, the Vice-Chancellor of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Cynthia Pandian, has said the values must form part of teaching.

In her introductory address in the 26th meeting of the Standing Committee on Academic Affairs held on the university premises here on Saturday, Dr. Cynthia said a new knowledge-driven society had to be created where justice and human values prevail.

The need of the hour was to implant human values in the students like quest for peace, adherence to truth and right conduct, non-violence, compassion, tolerance, love for all living beings, respect for the motherland and the glory of its rich culture and traditions, in order to promote societal concern and responsible citizenship.

"One of the key activities in this challenging process is restructuring curricula, which should be employment related, personality development related, work ethics, standards and values related, at the same time enabling students to perform well in various State and National-level competitive examinations."
