GCS Research and S&K Technologies Announce Strategic Alliance

Creating the Geospatial High-Tech Workforce for Montana

GCS Research (GCS) http://www.gcs-research.com and S&K Technologies (SKT) http://www.sktcorp.com are pleased to announce a strategic alliance to foster the development of next-generation geospatial products and services and promote geospatial job creation in this fast-growing Montana high-tech sector. As Montana-based companies specializing in geospatial IT solutions for the private and public sectors nationally, GCS Research and SKT share a common vision in the value of geospatial technologies and the increasing utilization of geospatial technologies in commercial and government business practices.

Capitalizing on this shared commitment, SKT supports GCS Research’s efforts to establish the Northern Rockies Geospatial Training Center (NRGTC), a 24-7 regional training center dedicated to providing practical geospatial and IT workforce development opportunities. The Northern Rockies Geospatial Training Center, housed in the Montana Technology Enterprise Center, provides a range of ESRI-based and Microsoft-based classes designed to meet the needs of geospatial IT professionals. The Northern Rockies Geospatial Training Center provides professional development services for the growing number of students and professionals looking to advance their geospatial careers, connects these skills into the international workplace, and advances geospatial IT industries across the Rocky Mountain West.

"SKT is excited to be working closely with GCS Research. GCS Research is innovative in their approach to providing geospatial IT solutions," says Ian Rufe, Business Development Specialist for SKT. In the coming months, SKT and GCS will be working to leverage the unique capabilities of each company and project comprehensive and innovative solutions to a range of mutual customers.

“SKT is doing amazing things in large-scale geospatial IT projects for federal customers,” states Alex Philp, President of GCS Research. “The combination of GCS and SKT in the geospatial industry represents a powerful force that needs to be projected internationally. Both companies want to put Montana squarely on this exploding industry map. Starting at home with geospatial IT workforce development, we look forward to a long-term business relationship with SKT.”

GCS and SKT typify Montana-based companies that require such a skilled workforce in order to meet international demand for geospatial IT solutions. Estimated to be a $110 billion dollar industry by 2008, Spatial Information Management (SIM) represents one of the fast-growing global sectors. SKT specializes in providing turn key IT service solutions. SKT has years of experience in providing operational and management support, scientific services, and research and development. SKT’s many clients include the US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Aviation Administration, US Air Force, and NASA.

As an outgrowth of a NASA-funded project at the University of Montana-Missoula, GCS Research has grown into a nationally-recognized leader in geospatial innovation, working to connect people with geospatial information, integrate spatial data into the comprehensive enterprise, and deliver GIS answers across networked solutions such as the Internet.
