Business Profiles: Transplanted Company Thrives in Billings – Darcova, Inc.

A 101-year-old company that moved to Billings ten years ago is introducing a new product that will increase the size of its manufacturing enterprise by 50 percent.

Darcova, Inc., an industry leader in innovative oilfield seals and gaskets, was founded in 1904 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Darcova later merged with another company, The Dragon Manufacturing in Marietta, Ohio, and moved their headquarters there. When Montana native Mike Baugh, and his two partners, purchased the companies they brought them to Billings, because "the commute to Ohio was too long, and none of us wanted to move to Ohio," jokes Baugh. Their life-style choice has been Montana’s gain in terms of economic benefit and employment opportunities – one that continues to expand its impact with the introduction of Darcova Tef-Core XT Cone Packing.

The new product brings a substantial improvement to the industry standard. That happens, according to Baugh, because he and his partners also own and operate their own oil and gas company, with production in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota, and their hands-on experience helps them in improving their products and service. In fact, their company motto has come to be: "Designed and Manufactured by Producers for Producers."

Baugh credits the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center http://www.mtmanufacturingcenter.com/ greatly with helping them to lower costs. MMEC field representatives helped them in analyzing their procedures and work flows and helping to refine them.
