Harbor Method makes waves across Idaho – Teaching system spreads to new schools, attracting tax dollars and influential fans

The Harbor Method of teaching Idaho students has grown from one experiment in a Nampa elementary school to an expanding network of charter and public schools from Canyon County to Idaho Falls — all in less than a decade.

It’s the first homegrown movement since the Legislature created the charter school system in 1998.

A loose group of parents and educators spread the word about the system and created the first few clones of the original Liberty Public Charter School in Nampa. Since then more schools have expressed interest in the Harbor Method and the long waiting lists it creates. In 2003, the Harbor Educational Institute was established to formalize the process of creating Harbor schools.
