Technology puts Great Falls business operation on cutting edge – Water Jet Extreme Technologies

Water-driven device gives special flair to metal design work

A small Great Falls business armed with a high-tech cutting tool is making its mark on the local architectural scene.

Water Jet Extreme Technologies also is making headlines.

The company, tucked into a squat, nondescript building between the Montana Refining Co. and the city’s sewage treatment plant, does metal fabrication work.

But instead of heat-fired cutting tools, Water Jet partners John Kramarich and Rip Rippetoe use a big machine that relies on intense water pressure to fire tiny bits of garnet to precisely cut metal, glass and other materials.

"There is virtually nothing the machine can’t cut except tempered glass," Kramarich said.
