Report ranks Montana high in rural education

Montana’s rural schools are doing better than those in other states, but some still need help to overcome student poverty, inadequate funding and lagging test scores, a national report http://www.ruraledu.org/whyruralmatters released Wednesday concludes.

The Rural School and Community Trust http://www.ruraledu.org/ , a West Virginia nonprofit group that studies rural issues, called Montana a "golden egg" in rural education. Its 80 percent rural graduation rate is one of the highest in the country, and students generally benefit from the state’s small classrooms and low student-teacher ratios, the report states.
