Push to improve per capita income under way

Raising Jacksonville’s per capita income could put the area beyond the cusp of greatness, say local leaders spearheading an effort to improve the key measurement.

Increasing per capita income would generate economic development, produce higher paying jobs, provide a better quality of life and strengthen the education system in Duval County, supporters say. But to do so the area must address issues such as education, transportation and growth management.

A public-private partnership is drafting a plan to increase per capita income, but it could take 15 to 20 years to implement. Meanwhile, the city lags behind several competing cities and the nation as a whole.
