Inventing the Wheel in Milltown City Club Missoula discusses the Milltown remediation and dam removal project.

"This is a complicated project," cautioned Bill Woessner, the Acting Director of the Center for Riverine Science and Stream Re-naturalization at The University of Montana. "This is a big project which we’ve never really done before at this scale. So it is a big, complicated project."

Big. Complicated. These words were repeated often today as Woessner and three of the experts working hard on the Milltown Dam removal explained the risks and opportunities the Missoula area faces as we near the removal of the dam. The panel discussed the removal at a lunch session hosted by the Missoula City Club.

Keith Large, a remediation specialist with Montana’s Department of Environmental Quality, made clear that "this is really a sediment removal project." The dam removal is simply a component of trying to clean up the toxic sediment.
