Utility thinks small to save Puget Sound seeks steps to improve energy efficiency

A growing economy requires more electricity and natural gas, so utilities such as Puget Sound Energy are faced with some options in coming up with the extra energy.

They can build or buy new generating plants, natural-gas-fueled turbines and windmills, and sign contracts for new gas supplies. Those options can deliver a lot of electricity or gas at once, but they also come with expensive price tags attached.

Here’s some other options: Get people to turn in old, inefficient second refrigerators. Or encourage them to plug the holes in the heating ducts of their mobile homes. Or persuade restaurants to cut the amount of water they use to rinse dishes.
