Microfabrication laboratory at Washington Technology Center helps startups like Nanostring Technologies save millions

By Perry Fell’s calculations, the Washington Technology Center’s http://www.watechcenter.org/ microfabrication laboratory is saving his Seattle-based nanotechnology startup millions of dollars in research costs.

Fell is CEO of Nanostring Technologies Inc. http://www.nanostring.com/ , a two-year-old company developing an instrument that enables scientists to identify and analyze genes at the sub-molecular level.

Building its own research facilities is out of the question. Like most startups, Nanostring lives hand to mouth on the funding it receives from its two venture capital investors — Kirkland-based OVP Venture Partners http://www.ovp.com/ and Draper Fisher Jurvetson http://www.dfj.com/ .
